To get back on track, I went into full design mode. I brought my notebook, tape measure and pencil and opened the first cabin. But my curiosity got the better of me; and I changed my mind and opened cabin number five instead. When I opened the door, a pungent odor assailed me and I heard a flapping noise from the back of the room. I definitely didn’t intend to go inside; what I saw gave me a good idea of what I was in store for. Smelly carpet, stacked furniture and mattresses leaned up against a wall, and full plastic bags stacked five and six feet high. I got a chill and quickly closed the door.

I then went into the other six cabins and took measurements, both for flooring and windows. The vanities and kitchenettes needed updating, and I was hoping Noah could work on those. I made a list of what I’d need; mattresses, bedding, dressers, area rugs and art. I could order all the furniture at one time and place everything as I completed the updates. When I finished looking at all the cabins, I was even more invigorated.

The furniture market was coming up in about three weeks, and I could hardly wait to shop. I’d go prepared with each unit’s information. The minute I got back to my cabin, I unpacked my Market Planner book and searched the exhibitors that were going to be there. I made a checklist of which showrooms I’d want to visit. Since there were two buildings, it was impossible to hit every showroom, so planning ahead was critical.

It would be great if I could take someone with me. Shopping as a team was always more fun, and it would give me the opportunity to bounce ideas off a partner in crime.

Who could I invite? Laura? I didn’t know if she’d even be interested, plus it might be too expensive for her to fly. Anyone from down the hill? Then I wondered about Noah. I’d have him do some of the work in the cabins so he’d be able to see a complete picture of what I had in mind. Men weren’t usually good shoppers though, unless, of course, it was car parts or sports equipment. Maybe I could ask. We could get separate rooms. And if neither were interested, I’d go by myself. I’d done it before.
